Smart Waste Management Sensors

The Senior High School of our Schools implements as a coordinator the European eTwinning project “SmartWasteManagementSensors”. This is a STEM project that aims to create a mechanism to control the capacity of waste bins by using an arduino board and the ability to remotely inform the waste collection vehicles. The aim is to save energy by reducing unnecessary trips and the resulting positive environmental footprint.

To implement the project, students program an Arduino board and design and 3Dprint components for the final construction. Solving the problem posed as the basis for the implementation of this project (energy saving from better waste management) enhances the students’ investigative ability to find the solution, thus contributing to the development of observation skills, experimentation and practical use of science and technology.
