Scholarships

The Scholarship Programme is in line with the basic principles of the mission of the Kotronis Schools and aims to ensure equal opportunities for more children to have access to education.

For this reason, the Kotronis Schools provide scholarships (full and partial) each school year based on a selection of criteria related to both academic performance and financial need of the student.

Scholarship recipients must meet a minimum academic performance requirement and have appropriate conduct.

Kotronis Schools do not make any discrimination by race, religion, colour, sex, gender, nationality, age or any special ability in the admission procedures of the scholarship programme they offer.

Students of both the Kotronis Schools and other public or private schools are eligible to participate in the Scholarship Program. Scholarship candidates must be of good conduct.

The scholarships granted by the Kotronis Schools concern the total or partial exemption of students from the costs of their studies for their attendance at junior or senior high school.

More specifically, the Kotronis Schools provide a total of up to 7 scholarships to students of the Kotronis Schools and other public or private schools in the wider region, following exams, as follows:

Up to 2 full (100%) and 2 partial (50%) scholarships for graduates of the 6th grade of primary school and cover the tuition fees for all three grades of junior high school.
Up to 1 full (100%) and 1 partial (50%) scholarship for graduates of the 3rd grade of junior high school and covering the tuition fees for all three grades of senior high school.
One one-year scholarship awarded by the Kotronis Schools Scholarship Fund for students of the 2nd and 3rd senior high school grade of public schools with high learning motivation and high academic performance.

The scholarships provided (1 & 2) are for tuition solely for all three grades of the school level to which the scholarship recipients’ attendance corresponds and are valid until the student graduates from the respective grade level, provided they maintain excellent performance and conduct of worldly character.

Transportation costs, any additional tuition fees, charges for additional educational programs and activities or other optional activities, school materials/uniforms and uniforms, and any expenses beyond basic tuition fees are not included in the scholarships.

The written exams for the scholarship candidates will be held at the premises of the Junior High School of the Modern Kotronis Schools on Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 10:00 to 14:00, with an arrival time of 9:30, observing all the necessary protective measures to ensure the health of the participants.

On the day of the competition, candidates must bring their identity card, passport or identity document (within 6 months).

Scholarships are awarded following written exams in Modern Greek Language and Mathematics, which are held in May or June of each school year.

The preparation, organization and conduct of the competition for the Scholarship, the selection of the topics and the evaluation of the students’ papers are the responsibility of the Principals of the Junior High School and the Senior High School. For this purpose the following are formed:

  1. Committee for the administration of the examinations and editing/selection of subjects for the test by teachers of the Junior High School and the Senior High School of the Schools.
  2. Committee for the evaluation and grading of written essays consisting of Senior High School teachers and external collaborators – teachers.

The above committees are responsible for the establishment of the evaluation list per course and the final evaluation list, as well as the announcement of the scholarship recipients.
In particular concerning the conduct of the competitive examination:

  • The topics of the competition are original and assess the knowledge and skills that each student has acquired at the respective age level, while at the same time exploring the potential for academic excellence.
  • The names and other details of the students on the examination sheets are covered upon handing in the subjects and under the responsibility of the class supervisors.
  • Written essays are graded from 0 to 100 points per subject, with a maximum of 100 points. Each course is graded by two evaluators (a school teacher and an external collaborator – teacher). The average score of the two evaluators is the final grade of the course.
  • The average of the sum of both subjects is the final grade of the candidate for the scholarship application.
  • Prerequisite for the award of a full scholarship is the performance of more than 90% on average.
  • For the award of a partial scholarship, the prerequisite is the performance of more than 80% on average.
  • In case of a tied score, a draw is made between the tied candidates before the Examinations Committee and the parents and guardians involved.
  • Recipients of the scholarship may be the candidates who are ranked in the first positions in the ranking of the competition per school level ( Junior High School – Senior High School).
  • In case one of the successful candidates of the first four positions does not accept the scholarship offered, no position will be filled by runner-up candidates.
  • The final ranking list of candidates for the scholarships is posted on the school’s website, where applicants can find out their order of success. For the sake of personal data protection, the final ranking list does not include the names of the candidates but the personal code of the candidate, which is issued by the school at the beginning of the exams.
