A big word that describes -usually- small creatures, was the focus of our last topic for Year 2 Science this year.
Animals without a backbone, called invertebrates, sparked our students’ interest as they participated in group and individual activities.
They started with discussing the main characteristics of vertebrates and invertebrates, as well as comparing pictures of animals.
The students explored the school surroundings for an ” I spy..” game , looking for specific invertebrate animals.
They discussed different groups of invertebrates in more details and made notes about the special features of each group.
A student brought a real sponge to class, and we had the opportunity to look at it closely.
After finding out so much about this special group of living things, the students had fun creating their own small creatures out of clay.
