We love pets!

Getting to know the world around us is an integral part of the Early Years education, and “Animals” is one of the topics that contributes to that.

For the English lesson, we chose to focus on pets.

The children talked about their own pets or what pet they would like to have. They also talked and learnt about what pets need and how we take care of them.

There were lots of opportunities to play with “pets” in the classroom.

Based on their phonics knowledge, the children had a go in reading a simple story , “Pat the Cat”. They also enjoyed the story of Gilbert the Goldfish and created a craft based on it.

Finally, as children became more confident, they also tried writing topic – related vocabulary, with the help of prompts and mini whiteboards.
